Clifford John Wood
Clifford John Wood, age 87 of Canton, passed away February 18, 2010 at the Canton Regency Health Care Center. He was born July 13, 1922 in Arlington, MA, the son of the late Clifford and Muriel (Baker) Wood Jr. He was a graduate of Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, RI; Nichols College in Dudley, MA and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. He proudly served his country as an army veteran of WWII.
On January 28, 1950, he married Mary Elizabeth Harrigan in the historic log chapel on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. They moved to North Canton in April of 1956 where he started working for the Hoover Company. Clifford was the manager of marketing services for both the Hoover Company and the Hoover Worldwide Corporation. He retired from the Hoover Company in January of 1988 and became Executive Vice President of the Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturers Association, the trade association for companies that produce electric floor care products. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors for various companies including the Canton Chapter of the Red Cross, the Canton Regional Transit Authority, Goodwill Industries of Eastern Central Ohio, the Canton Preschool Daycare Center and he served as a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Harrigan) Wood; sons, David (Linda) Wood of Sierra Vista, AZ, Christopher Wood of Hilliard, OH, Brian (Robin) Wood of Eugene, OR, Barry Wood of Vero Beach, FL and Eric (Sarah) Wood of Washington D.C.; foster son, Roger (Berta) Bello Miami, FL and four grandchildren.
A memorial mass for Clifford will be celebrated at a future date at St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton. Condolences and special memories may be shared online at www.heritagecremation.com.
